What do you get when you strap a Yamaha R1 Engine to a custom built Go Kart frame?…. well a frickin Go Kart that clocks 181mph! yes… 290kph!
So my mate Chris posted a video on Facebook of the R1 powered Go Kart where the driver starts racing around the streets in this thing.. obviously very illegally of course. The video is 10mins long but you can’t help to feel rather excited and ridiculously jealous for the oke at the same time… and believe it or not, he passes a cop car who was either half asleep or just wasn’t up for the challenge, but one thing is for sure…. you’ll flipping well want one of these!
So before we get onto the videos… I did a little bit of reading up on this insane little “pocket rocket” if you may…
As it turns out the original owner built a custom frame to mount a 2005 Yamaha R1 engine onto it, some further parts were taken from the bike such as the triple disc brake calipers from the bike, however the one thing that has stopped this thing from reaching 200mph… apparently its a little difficult to source go kart tyres that can handle 200mph… no shit! but all in all this contraption weighs in at only 220lbs… yes… 99kgs! in other words, if this thing had wings… it would fly!
Now about that blown rear tyre in the pic… as you’ll see in the below video… the original owner was doing a speed run trying to break the 200mph mark… as the speedo clocked 181mph (290kph)… the rear tyre blew and he went spinning down the strip… probably absolutely shitting himself at the same time!
Have a look at this…
Hectic!!! trust me… I’d be throwing my arms up in the air after that! geeez!
Can you imagine whacking down a strip at 181mph with your balls sitting about 1 inch from the ground and that happens?… ja, definitely going to have to have a pair of titanium ones right there
So anyway… the Go Kart has since been sold to a guy who wants to keep himself anonymous for obvious reasons after you see this
aaah reminds me of the days of living in the Drakensberg where the nearest cop station was 30km’s away and I was free to ride in a similar manner
That reminds me… I think I should tell you all about “The Black Mamba” some time… otherwise known as my 300BHP SuperCharged Honda Civic Type R
