Hlaudi’s ‘Sunshine State’

The Democratic Alliance released a media statement yesterday, stating they have received information that SABC's COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng is to prevent SABC-owned radio stations from reading newspaper headlines live on air.

They go on to list specific attempts by Hlaudi to prevent free and fair coverage of the upcoming local elections. The DA claim that he is driven to only portray 'sunshine news' about the ANC. The DA state that they will stop at nothing to protect the independence of SA's public broadcaster. This comes after the announcement that SABC will no longer allow it's television stations to show content that includes violent images from service delivery protests. Hlaudi also recently introduced a quota for the SABC to play 90% local music and then later increased this to 100%.
