Mark Boucher Retires From Cricket Following Severe Eye Injury

It was a sad day for  cricket today where Mark Boucher sadly announced that he has been forced to retire from international cricket following the severe eye injury he suffered yesterday

Yesterday I told you about the freak accident that occured where a bail flew off the stumps and hit South African Wicket Keeper, Mark Boucher in the eye which lacerated his sclera (the white part of the eye). Mark was discharged from Taunton hospital here in the UK this morning following an operation to repair his eye. Although his eye was repaired during the operation, South Africa's team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee is reported to have said, "The long-term prognosis at this stage remains unknown."

Sadly Mark announced today that he is forced to to end his epic Cricket career due to the injury as he has a long uncertain road to recovery.

"It is with sadness, and in some pain, that I make this announcement," said Boucher in his statement. "Due to the severity of my eye injury, I will not be able to play international cricket again"

One unfortunate statistic is that Mark currently holds the record for most dismissals by any wicket keeper, his current standing... 999 dismissals, its a real shame he is one short of 1000. Either way he's a true South African legend in my eyes!

Mark is currently on a plane back to South Africa to start his journey to recovery.

Wishing you all the best Mark, I hope you make a speedy and very positive recovery!

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
