Allister Coetzee is reportedly out of the running to take up the position of new Springbok Rugby Coach. Allister Coetzee
is reported to have told Japanese media that he has told the Kobe Steelers
, the team which his coaches in Japan, that he is sitting tight and will see out the second year of his contract with them in the J-League as initially planned.Since Coetzee was tipped to be sitting comfortably in the Bok role seat by Christmas, which has obviously come and gone. He did receive a broad range of welcoming support for the role from other unions during this the lead-up, more specifically the DHL Stormers
... obvs 🙂According to reports he specifically told media covering the J-League final that he would be returning to Japan and NOT taking the Bok job, so if there was any doubt about it, well there you have it.While some may be breathing a sigh of relief, others are looking ahead and wondering who could possibly fit the role. SARU
have stated that they are not advertising the role but, to put it plainly, it seems they are looking to wave a few bank notes in a few select faces and see who bites.
The role for the time being would seem to go to SARU's Director Of Rugby, Mr. Rassie Erasmus,
although it is said that Erasmus does have quite bit on his plate already. He seems to be quite a busy bee at SARU where he also heads up the SA Referees Society as well as oversees a mobile coaching unit called SARU Mobi-Unit that helps out other provinces that may need assistance, which has also pretty much taken over coaching at the Southern Kings with new coach Deon Davids. So it looks like Erasmus couldn't hold a fourth ball even if he wanted to.For the time being, we'll just have to sit tight and see what SARU comes up with as they are expected to secure appointment next month and be finalised when the General Council get together for a few beers and a meeting in March.So...What do you reckon?Share the article and tell us what you think in the comments here on our Facebook Page
