It's official!... South African Craig Joubert has been given the honour of reffing the Rugby World Cup Final 2011 between the All Blacks and France next Sunday.
This follows Craig Joubert's outstanding performance in yesterdays semi final of the All Blacks vs Australia at Eden Park in Auckland.
The IRB are said to be delighted by Craig's performance and based on merit, he has been awarded the honour, he'll be joined by the following to form the referee team on Sunday. Assistant Referee's are, Rugby World Cup 2007 Final referee Alain Rolland (reserve referee) from Ireland and Nigel Owens from Wales and Guilio de Santis from Italy will be TMO.
The bronze final between Australia and Wales will be reffed by Wayne Barnes from England and he'll be assisted by Romain Poite from France and George Clancy from Ireland with South African Shaun Veldsman as TMO. No surprise to see Barnes is nowhere near the main final 🙂
This will be Craig's first World Cup Final and the second South African Referee to ref a World Cup final alongside Andre Watson, who reffed the 1999 World Cup Final between Australia and France in Cardiff and again in 2003 between Australia and England in Sydney. I guess considering the importance of the final, they wanted someone who knew what he was doing (unlike some people) and being the least likely to cause a cock up. As we saw yesterday, that's none other than our boy Craig Joubert.
Well done Boytjie!!! 🙂
